February 2023

Black Girls in Art Spaces (BGIAS) is a global online and in-person platform for Black girls, women, and non-binary people that love art in all its realms.

I was invited to co-host the first in-person Dallas chapter meetup of 2023 alongside the founder, Kaci Merriwether-Hawkins.

Organic Marketing

BGIAS and I began promoting the event 3 days prior by sharing a collaborative Instagram post featuring Exhibits A & B. The post earned an engagement of 300+ likes, 70 shares, 30 bookmarks, and over 30 comments within the first 24 hours.

By the day of the meetup, the post earned additional engagement totaling 400+ likes, 90 shares, 40 comments, and 40 bookmarks.

Duties

My duties as the co-host included the following:

  • Promoting the event online.

  • Greeting BGIAS guests.

  • Coordinating with gallery workers.

  • Sharing details about the art on display.

  • Assisting in leading a roundtable discussion.

  • Capturing photos & videos for documentation.

Outcome

Community Care and Art.

More than 70 individuals participated in the meetup. Members of the BGIAS group had the chance to observe the artwork and engage with the artist, Nii Narku Thompson, in a cozy atmosphere at the renowned local art venue, Daisha Board Gallery. They also connected with like-minded individuals and expanded their network.
